Located in the residential neighbourhood of Nakameguro, South West Tokyo, is clothing and lifestyle store 1LDK. Established in August 2008 in an old apartment building, the store's name comes from its infrastructure, a classic Japanese apartment with a ‘1LDK’ room layout, meaning it has one separate bedroom with a living, dining and kitchen area. Owner Hiroyasu Fukuzawa chose this name as he wanted 1LDK to provide a relaxing shopping experience for his customers, almost as if they were spending time at a friend’s apartment.
The brand’s motto ‘none-daily life in the daily life’ subtly informs the collection of clothing, tools, homeware and books that cover every aspect of everyday living. 1LDK's curated catalogue predominantly consists of Japanese fashion and interior design goods alongside in-house label Universal Products, a collection of high-end casual basics. 1LDK also present several handpicked Japanese and international labels including Another Shirt Please, Cosmic Wonder, Hender Scheme, Unused, Maison Martin Margiela and Frank Leder.
Designed by craftsman Ken Nishijo from furniture company Raregem, the 1LDK shop is low key and the use of natural materials, industrial fittings and plants creates a worn-in and welcoming space.
In close proximity to Shibuya, Ebisu, and Daikanyama, the laid back and unpolished charm of Nakameguro is unmissable. Explore the network of quiet lanes and low-rise houses with plant-filled porches as well as the growing creative community of shops and studios including 1LDK apartments, Taste AND Sense café, General Store by Mountain Research and Nigel Cabourn's Army Gym, located just further up the river.
