A serene retreat in the Brooklyn's Bushwick neighbourhood, AP Cafe's likeness to a European-style cafe is a stark contrast to it's neighbouring store fronts on Troutman Street. Founded by California-born artist and metalworker Hugo McCloud along with AP cafe's general manager Tanya Landeta, the project was invested in by Ryan Grant, a former NFL runningback.
The creative team led by Hugo McCloud have renovated the cavernous workspace, formerly a metal shop with the artist in mind. Fully designed in-house by McCloud (with the exception of an electrician and concrete crew) the all white, minimalist setting features a floor-to-ceiling wall waterfall, handcrafted U-shaped counter, brass shelving wooden furnishings and succulents create a sophisticated yet refreshing atmosphere.
A well-considered edit of coffee, sandwiches, smoothies, teas and confectionaries features on the menu. AP Cafe source their coffee from New York's Forty Weight, a independent speciality coffee roaster based in Ithaca. Sweet tooth? AP Cafe source their donuts and pastries from Dough, a patissière on the border of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy.
The AP Cafe's menu promises to remain progressive, blending various cuisines and culinary favourites including Turkish, Vietnamese, Mexican, Jamaican and family recipes such as homemade ginger beer and sorrel. Plans to offer small plates and eventually dinner are also on the cards.
A firm favourite and pioneer in the Bushwick neighbourhood, AP Cafe has already become a unmissable coffee pitstop in Brooklyn.
