Located in New York's DUMBO district, the Brooklyn Roasting Company serves up individually selected and sustainable blends. Committed to offering the best quality fair trade, organic and Rainforest Alliance certified coffee, their New York outpost is found on industrial Jay Street, tucked around the corner from a power plant overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The Brooklyn Roasting Company sources their green coffee beans from the world's favourite coffee-growing regions and once delivered, they are hand roasted on site using the Loring Kestrel 1/2 bagger roaster, the most advanced small-scale commercial roaster around.
Co-founded by Jim Munson, Michael Pollack and Rob Herschenfeld, the trio's commitment to 'coffee that tastes great and does good' has meant that they lead a team of dedicated coffee lovers who only settle for the best. The co-founders rigorously assess the taste of each blend twice before it's shipped to ensure quality and upon arrival, the bean undergoes further in-house testing before it's served up.
The Brooklyn Roasting Company employs a 'green thinking' approach to artisan coffee and the company uses recycled materials, refurbished equipment and even has a renewable energy powered distribution network (bicycle and bio-diesel van). The friendly staff are attentive and knowledgeable baristas are always on hand to advise you on your perfect cup.
Check out nearby organic food store Fresh Fanatic (275 Park Avenue) and pick up a bag of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and canelés. If your trip takes you deeper into Brooklyn, swing by Dough (305 Franklin Avenue), serving up arguably the best doughnuts this side of the river. North of DUMBO in Williamsburg sits Margo Patisserie (667 Driggs Avenue) specialising in Viennoiseries; the almond croissants are a huge hit.
