On the outskirts of Amsterdam’s vast Vondelpark lies the unique 81-room Conscious Hotel. Created by Marco Lemmers and Sam Cohen, the hotel promotes eco-friendly and ethical living to deliver a 'hip, friendly, green and fun' experience.
The 10 metre-long glass framed façade bathes the Wieneke Van Gemeren-designed lobby in natural light and the earthy furnishings are animated by the bold, illuminated signage. Plants are scattered around the lobby and the floor-to-ceiling plant-wall is unmissable yet it is a tranquil space featuring several bookstands to pass the time. Each room, also by Van Gemeren, is individually designed in an eco-conscious fashion with sustainable Cradle-to-Cradle carpet tiles, a custom-made desk repurposed from coffee cups and bedside tables made from eco-resin.
The rooms are minimal yet don't compromise on quality and all rooms feature large comfy beds, spacious showers and complimentary wifi.
The organic breakfast is a welcome early morning treat and the Conscious bar is open until midnight. Walking distance from the main attractions of Amsterdam, this well-appointed hotel is worth a stay for design and eco-conscious guests on a modest budget.
