Located in the heart of Södermalm neighbourhood is French bistro Delikatessen. Housed in a former fire station dating back to the late 1800s, the authentic Parisian style restaurant offers a menu of mainly French cuisine peppered with the odd Swedish classic. Next door to vintage shop Brandstationen on Krukmakargatan, Ann-Sofie Hansson and her husband Jesper opened the Delikatessen Bistro Bar in January 2011. Growing up with her mother in Paris, Ann-Sofie spent her childhood around French cuisine and her love for cooking has always been a source of inspiration. Originally starting out around the corner selling French cheeses, pates, quails and soups for lunch, Hansson’s lunchtimes became so popular (she was serving hundreds of soups daily) that she needed larger premises.
Set in one of Stockholm’s oldest firehouses, the Delikatessen Bistro Bar décor is charming and naturally romantic with tall ceilings, low-hanging ceiling lamps and well-proportioned framed windows that let natural light fill the restaurant. The décor is traditional and unassuming; geometric tiled flooring sits under tables covered with white tablecloths and decorated with glassware, candles and fresh flowers. The walls of the Delikatessen Bistro Bar display old photography and drawings and dimly lit candles illuminate the draping plants sat on high shelving above.
The blackboards contain chalked up French classics including steak frites, coq au vin and bouillabaisse and the extensive European wine and champagne list doesn’t disappoint. Thursdays are particularly busy due to Delikatessen's famous boeuf bourguignon, which has now become a regular on the lunch menu.
During summertime, Delikatessen opens its huge fire doors and diners can sit outside, enjoy lunch and people watch.
