The latest outpost by London-based clothing label Folk is located on Great Windmill Street (off Brewer Street), a thoroughfare running north to south in London's iconic Soho district. Formerly the Soho Cabaret club, the store is a calm alternative to the district’s more vibrant neighbours and presents Folk's seasonal menswear collection alongside an expanding range of lighting, furniture and homeware.
Founded by Scottish designer Cathal McAteer in 2001, Folk Clothing has gained an international following for their perfectly simple and everyday collections. With subtle and unusual design detailing, Folk’s understated charm is found throughout their footwear, womenswear and homeware ranges, stocked both in the Folk stores and by independent retailers around the world including Cowboys 2 Catwalk (Amsterdam), Harvest(Munich) and Goods(Copenhagen).
The impressively clean, minimal space is an ideal setting for Folk's contemporary aesthetic and was designed by founder McAteer who has recently branched into hotel design (See Folk x The Flushing Meadows). The Soho store presents Folk's clothing, homeware and furniture collections alongside luggage by Japanese label HOBO and beautiful marble tables (an ongoing collaboration between McAteer and London-based sculptor Paul Vanstone), stone sculptures, brass lighting, wooden shelving and handmade ceramics from Brickett Davda.
Whilst in Soho also check out the nearby coffee bar and music station, Soho Radio. You can also find Folk’s menswear and womenswear stores on Lambs Conduit Street (swing by number 53 and slip downstairs for a quick grooming session at Folk Barber) and on Dray Walk in the East end.
