Folklore is a homeware and lifestyle store located on leafy Upper Street in the heart of Islington. With the idea that 'better living is possible through design', the store was founded in 2012 by husband and wife duo, Danielle and Rob Reid. Both have a keen eye for simple yet well-crafted pieces and the store houses a hand-picked selection of products sourced from all over the world.
With a strong focus on functional and sustainable design, Folklore primarily stocks items that are crafted with care to ensure the durability of each item. The impressive range of homeware, furniture, lighting and lifestyle objects include Danish furniture brand HAY, Iris Hantverk, Atelier de l'Armée and L:a Bruket. Folklore believe that a product's longevity is as important as its heritage and this is a key consideration when sourcing pieces that will be used time and time again.
Danielle’s former career in interior design has informed Folklore's understated and pair-back space; the store’s interior is a Scandinavian-inspired mix of neutral shades, wooden furnishings and rope-suspended shelving.
Folklore is ethically minded and in a bid to tackle environmental and social challenges, and to promote sustainability, the company donates 10% of its profits to a different not-for-profit organisation at the end of every year. In 2013 they supported Shanti Microfinance to promote entrepreneurship in some of India's poorest slums and villages.
