Located on Torkelknutssonsgatan, near the Maria Square Tbana in Stockholm’s Södermalm district, Stockholm Fotoantikvariat is a trove of rare and used photography books. This beautiful bookshop and gallery space opened in December 2007 and is a gold mine for photographers and photobook enthusiasts. Founded by Karl-Erik Jagare, the store presents an impressive collection of antiquarian photo literature and new publications; it has also become a gathering place for local photographers to browse Jagares impressive array of rare photography books and attend exhibitions from both established and unknown photographers.

Jagare’s directory of photobooks includes famous international photographers such as William Klein, Robert Frank and Richard Avedon; Japanese photography by Daido Moriyama, the father of street photography who created brutally honest portraits of Tokyo, is also highly sought after. Alongside the international selection, is a healthy Swedish photography collection featuring works by Christer Ström Holm, Anders Petersen and Lars Tunbjörk.

The gallery space at Stockholms Fotoantikvariat hosts several exhibitions per year and has previously included Keld Helmer-Petersen, Gunnar Smoliansky and Catharina Gotby. Exhibitions often showcase the work of local photographers such as Out of Necessity (OON), a photography publishing house based in Stockholm.

Inside the raw concrete floor and aged glass ceiling creates a harmonious space - the perfect setting to gaze through Jagare’s collection. A large bookcase is filled with seemingly random photo literature while the store itself features many interesting details, all part of Jagare’s collection.
