Brooklyn-based retailer Gentry is a multi-brand shop that opened as simple reflection of the Gentry team's passion of clothing. Formerly known as H.W. Carter & Sons, Gentry has continued to build a loyal, sartorial following since opening in December 2012 at their previous address (127 N. 6th Street). Led by store director and buyer Justin Dean, the Gentry team includes e-commerce manager Michael Baquerizo, social media manager Adrian Carter and regular collaboration with New York-based photographer Ivan Bideac.
Gentry's impressive brand mix includes esteemed labels such as Engineered Garments, Orslow, Junya Watanabe and ts(s) alongside menswear favourites Our Legacy, Supreme, Stone Island, Adidas and Arpenteur. Key to Gentry's success is their approach to styling, curating outfits that mix luxury with streetwear, high with low without being over-styled. This can be seen on the Gentry website with a dedicated 'features' section which has preoccupy included collaborative editorials with Converse, Briefing Japan, and Needles, a Nepenthes brand.
The Gentry store which opened in June 2015 is located on 108 N. 7th Street, only a stones throw away from the original store in a former Bikram yoga studio. Inside, a minimalistic white space spread over two floors is filled with wooden furnishings and steelwork, acting as a clean backdrop to present Gentry's seasonal collections. While the ground floor displays find to find labels including Nanamica, The Real McCoy’s and Visvim, the first floor houses rare furniture, antiques and other curiosities as curated by Man of the World.
A firm favourite in Willamsburg, Gentry's unique and individual aesthetic within an ever-crowding menswear world is a highly recommended visit along with nearby neighbours Toby's Estate Coffee, D.O.C. Wine Bar and Hotel Delmano.
