Neighbourhood cafe Granola sits on a little side street on the edge of Copenhagen's Vesterbro district. Nestled between the arterial Gammel Kongevej and Vesterbrogade, there's a definite community feel to Værnedamsvej, the home of Granola, a charming 1950s-inspired cafe with an eclectic mix of vintage furnishings, rustic tables and an old-fashioned pull-handle cash register. In the heart of this bohemian district, known for it's French atmosphere, sit numerous restaurants, florists and wine bars catering to individuals and families both old and young.
Populated day and night by brunching twentysomethings and mature diners, Granola is known for its freshly brewed coffee, homemade ice cream and Summerbird chocolates. If you're feeling brave practise your Danish and order Denmark's tongue-twisting red berry pudding (Rødgrød med fløde) to earn serious respect from locals. The breakfast menu (Granola opens at 7am on weekdays) features freshly baked croissants, pastries and small plates to set you up for the day; lunchtimes are usually very busy but its worth checking out the inventive daily specials board.
Said to be a favourite haunt of off-duty Noma chefs, you may even spot some culinary heroes.
