Located in the heart of historic Gastown, Litchfield presents a collection of objects with a rich history of craftsmanship. Founded by Jonathan Litchfield, former President of Martha Sturdy's eponymous brand, the store opened in November 2013 and operates under the title 'How we live'. This title is apt as the store is as much a lifestyle destination as it is a store and Jonathan presents a considered selection of products that directly relate to his own life experiences.

As the eldest of five siblings, Jonathan spent his childhood in a small town just outside Osaka where he aquired an appreciation of craftsmanship and an aesthetic sensibility. The store is clearly influenced by Jonathan's Japanese upbringing and he recalls 'once I found the space, which is a long very linear concrete space, it became very obvious to that it was my grandfather's home'.

Inside, the clean concrete space presents Jonathan's well balanced selection of simple goods on industrial shelving. The use of warm woods and exposed brickwork help to soften the interior and the furnishings include a wooden branch hanger and a recycled table made from heavy railway sleepers; the store is also environmentally responsible and aims to create a 'harmonious environment' by reducing waste wherever possible. The rails and table tops are stocked with items chosen for their form and function, including Japanese outdoor wares by Snow Peak, an IDMC° favourite.

Expect the obvious and unusual when visiting the Litchfield store, from the likes of Japanese kitchen knives, handcrafted axes and organic apothecary, all items are selected for their unique nature and high quality.
