Nestled behind Marylebone High Street, Chiltern Street is a peaceful avenue boasting a range of specialist and independent stores. Lifestyle and concept store Mouki Mou, located at number 29, presents up-and-coming designers from around the world in a quiet and relaxed setting.
Opened in May 2013, Mouki Mou is the brainchild of Greek-born Maria Lemos- also the founder of London-based fashion showroom Rainbowwave. Lemos' signature minimalist style runs throughout the Chiltern Street store (named after her daughter) and the collections are all handpicked for their quality and unique character.
Described as 'rough luxury', the Mouki Mou store, run by Clifford Beachem (formerly of Browns) exclusively presents Japanese artisans 45RPM and Arts & Science alongside Sacai Luck, Crippen and Rachel Comey. The store boasts an impressive range clothing and accessories- check out the leather goods by Isaac Reina, Il Bussetto and Ancient Greek Sandals as well as jewellery from Jem and Le Gramme.
Inside, the space is divided over two floors connected by a black steel spiral staircase. The ground floor is occupied by wooden jewellery cabinets and marble tabletops decorated with Garett Leight eyewear, Kaweco stationary and hard-to-find skincare by Susanne Kauffmann and Rodin. Downstairs, the clothing collections are presented in four individual rooms each with its own character and aesthetic. Reclaimed parquet flooring runs throughout the rooms and steel rails, Georgian wired glass shelving, refurbished fireplaces and vintage furniture chosen by Lemos unites the space.
Mouki Mou's interior design was a collaborative effort between Lemos and William Russell from design consultancy firm Pentagram; the pair carefully designed the store to achieve a renovated rather than new aesthetic.
