Located in a former sewing shop in Manhattan's Garment District, Nepenthes is a hidden menswear store boasting handpicked and unusual labels. Taking its name from a genus of carnivorous plants, the cult lifestyle boutique offers a shopping experience modelled on the brand’s previous success in Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo.
Don't miss the well camouflaged shop exterior that reveals a carefully curated collection of pieces for men and women, many of which were only made available in the U.S. when the Nepenthes opened its doors in 2010. The interior is a white space dressed with vintage wooden furnishings, industrial metal railings and leafy plants.
Nepenthes handpick all pieces on display at the New York boutique and also stock their own in-house seasonal collections. Alongside labels such as Engineered Garments, Needles, South 2 West 8, Trickers and Mark McNairy, the store also offers a selection of magazines, accessories and homeware.
Nepenthes is housed over two floors and the upstairs space often plays host to a range of pop-up events; most recently Nepenthes hosted a pop-up shop from garden stylist Satoshi Kawamoto of Green Fingers. Check Nepenthes’ website for upcoming events and exhibitions.
