Nestled away in Manchester’s Northern Quarter is North Tea Power, an espresso bar and café located on an elevated colonnade on Tib Street. Founded by Wayne Lew and Jane Spindler, North Tea Power started out as a tea specialist with a particular focus on loose-leaf teas before coffee was added to the mix due to popular demand – the store now even serves up Manchester’s ‘first espresso machine tea’.
Inside, the industrial, modern and paired-back interior is spacious and features an eclectic range of furniture and materials including reclaimed wooden surface tops, recycled tables, school chairs and minimalist lighting. The café has a relaxed vibe and is the ideal sanctuary for those looking to escape the bustle of the city; the communal seating area accommodates larger groups as well as creatives typing away (the space has many power sockets and free wifi for those wishing to work).
North Tea Power's menu offers simple and wholesome breakfasts, lunches, locally baked puddings and a handpicked selection of loose-leaf teas and artisan coffee. Don't miss the seasonal rotation of espresso blends; on our visit we grabbed a cup of the Deerhunter blend espresso roasted by Staffordshire-based Has Bean, custom-made to North Tea Powers ‘specifications and flavour profile’. Serious about their coffee the branch also serves up several single origin blends from Square Mile in London.
North Tea Power’s friendly and knowledgeable staff (along with their famous grilled cheese sandwiches) have placed this café firmly on the map of any respectable coffee connoisseur or tea enthusiast. The branch also houses a small collection of local magazines as well as coffee bean bags to take home.
