Tucked in amongst the narrow streets and thoroughfares of Fowey is The Webb Street Company, a design-led homeware and interiors store in the heart of this fishing town on Cornwall's south coast. Opened in April 2013, The Webb Street Company is housed in the former Cry of the Gulls gallery and was founded by Oliver Davies and Ben Bailey. The pair's passion for unique everyday items and functional design has lead them to offer a careful selection of simple, beautiful objects and although the hand-picked products are sourced both locally and internationally, the range successfully encapsulates Davies' and Bailey's personal tastes.

Not just a slogan, ‘Purveyors of Quality’ is the brand's founding principle. But The Webb Street Co's focus on simplicity is not to be mistaken with a simple process of selection; before sitting on the shelves each object is carefully chosen in light of its craft, function, purpose and ultimately, durability. On our visit we spotted homeware from Falcon Enamelware, Fog Linen Work and Merchant & Mills, plus a neatly curated selection of stationary and trinkets. Publications, including food and travel magazines Cereal and Kinfolk, were also found stacked alongside the store's impressive window displays.

The Webb Street Company's interior, designed by Millard & Flo, is well considered. The modern aesthetic of the store is achieved through whitewashed panelling, reclaimed pieces and display units (built by bespoke joinery firm, Landmark) alongside more antiquated items such as scientific illustrations, antique price labels and original fittings. Simple, modern and seemingly effortless, The Webb Street Company is a Cornish stop not to be missed.
