With a strong focus on American-made heritage, menswear store Totem Brand celebrates the best US labels using traditional methods of craft. Founded by Philadelphia native Phillip Yi, the store is located on South Street in the city's historical Society Hill district and stocks a wealth of handmade apparel and accessories.
With a belief that the 'made in USA’ mark is the ultimate seal of approval, Totem only stocks brands that offer high quality, durable and practical wares; expect to find pieces by Red Wing, Danner, Raleigh Denim, Juniper ridge and Taylor Stitch. Inside, the interior also pays homage to traditional and rustic American design with luggage hanging on wall-mounted wooden decking and footwear stacked in antique milk crates. Metal and glass industrial pendants hang over the tables throughout the store, supported by classic industrial machinery and factory legs.
Not only is Totem one of the few premium denim stockists in Philadelphia, Yi has managed to turn his passion for American-made goods into a well-designed space with a neat edit of products. Totem plays host to a continual rotation of brands and on our visit we spotted hats made from salvaged wool by Totem's newest addition, LA-based Yellow 108.
