Hitohari Handmade bags by Masahiko Fukuda | Furano, Hokkaido (JAP) | By Lee Fleming

We’re relentlessly on the lookout for well-made luggage such as these fine articles from Japanese bag maker Hitohari. Founded in 2006 by Yokohama-born Masahiko Fukuda, Hitohari started from a personal need for a bicycle bag while commuting for his studies at Hachinohe Institute of Technology, Aomori.

Residing in Furano (Hokkaido), Hitohari is a one man brand with a conscious philosophy of scrap and craftsmanship. Taking thrown away, discard materials, Fukuda collects unwanted scraps to create his handmade bags and everyday carriers with distinct styles such as the Suso (made from off cuts of denim) and Mosiac (patchwork shoulder bag).

Danielle Foster | London (UK) | By Emma Harrison

London College of Fashion graduate and full-time model Danielle Foster presents a collection of sturdy and structured accessories for her forthcoming Autumn/Winter 2014 collection. First launched in January 2012, this is Foster's sixth collection that blends together her signature reworked boxy silhouettes with brand new styles and textures.

With a minimal palette inspired by Indonesian sunsets, the pieces in Foster's A/W 14 collection are at once functional and versatile and all bags feature brass and nickel plated fastenings that enable the straps to be removed in order to transform shoulder bags into neat clutches. Foster designs the products in her Hackney studio before they are handmade in North London using the highest quality vegetable tanned leather, dyed and embossed in Northampton. The A/W 14 collection includes totes, clutches and over the shoulder bags in monochrome and buttery hues and upon purchase, each bag is delivered in a fabric dust bag made in Billesdon, Leicestershire, a small village local to Foster's childhood home.

Danielle Foster's Autumn Winter 2014 collection launches in August and will be available on her website in September.

Farmers Racer | Nybro (SWE)

In a world increasingly driven by speed, the art of slow production is being forgotten. By using slow traditional techniques, Lars Gustavsson, the gentleman behind Farmers Racer, has created a well-crafted product range based on the Swedish farmers and industrial workers of the Småland countryside who built and raced self-made motorcycles through the meadows and spruce forests.

Crafted in the South East of Sweden, all Farmers Racer products are bench-made using unique materials and careful craftsmanship. Time and dedication goes into making each waxed cotton backpack, created by one person from start to finish; a nod to the hard work and traditional production methods of the Småland countryside workers.
