Viction:ary | CITIx60 Art Print Project | Hong Kong (CHN) | By Lee Fleming

Recently released, the CITIx60 Art Print Project is an extension of CITIx60 City Guides, a collaboration created by Hong Kong-based Viction:ary and a handful of acclaimed designers that also includes selected city maps. Founded in 2001 by Victor Cheung, Viction:ary is the publishing arm of design house Viction Workshop Ltd. who specialise in visual arts and design publishing from East and West.

Alongside the publication, their inspirational city guide series highlights 60 venues recommended by a local creative in each location. To complement this, Viction:ary's CITIx60 Art Print Project consists of beautifully illustrated maps of exaggerated details which re-examine the distinctive landscapes of Tokyo, Paris and Berlin. The limited edition maps are produced as high quality art prints, 60 respectively at A1 and A2 formats.

The adventurous illustrations by New Zealand and Japan-based Masako Kubo (Tokyo map), Scottish illustrator and designer Allan Deas (Paris map) and Helsinki-based Vesa Sammalisto (Berlin map) were especially commissioned for this project and can be viewed on the Viction:ary website.

'Looking at my father' by Jiro Konami | Tokyo (JAP) | By Lee Fleming

'Looking at my father' is a moving photobook by photographer Jiro Konami who documents his father’s life on a remote island off Toyko. The book was published by Tycoon Books, a Tokyo based independent publisher established by Taro Serikawa and Yosuke Watanabe in 2009 with an aim to discover emerging talent both locally and internationally.

'Looking at my father' captures the daily life of Konami’s father over an eight year time period and through the delicate compilation of photographs, time elapses and the subject ages gracefully. The photobook showcases many tender, humorous and sad moments- Konami’s father posing in front of the camera with bewildered expressions and gestures, stolen glimpses and gradual illness.

View more of Konami's photography by visiting his website. You can find his 'Looking at his father' photobook at Albam Clothing (London, UK).

Abacus Totem Key Holder by Postal Co | Tokyo (JAP)

With misplacing a set of keys being up the top of our ‘annoyance’ list, we look to Shibuya based creators Postal Co who have thoughtfully considered the trauma of lost keys and designed the Abacus Totem Key Holder. Having started in 2000, New York bag designer Mike Abelson noticed his wife Yuri, a graphic designer, was having difficulty carrying around A4 size papers. Mike crated an envelope-shaped case with a button closure for Yuri, a purposeful solution became a modest beginning for Postal Co. Now based in Shibuya (Toyko), Postal Co presents designs that are set apart due to their supreme utility and ineffable warmth with results in objects of use that own an understated beauty.

The Abacus Totem Key Holder (D: 2 x 0.5 x 0.5") is a prime example of simple problem solving, handcrafted in Japan and made from solid brass, it holds a selection of keys with a screw closed rod. Also available with a tall totem screw closure.

Available from PostalCo online and selected stockists.
